Setting Up The Trip

We just got confirmation that Jack, The Water Project project manager (from England), will be leaving Kenya to go back to England at the end of May, but he will be there to see us before he leaves. So we will travel to a town called Kakamega, an 8-hour bus ride west of Nairobi. We turned down offers to have us picked up at the airport, as we want to make our own way across the country by local vehicles. "When in Rome..." After spending a few days in Kakamega we will travel to nearby Kipepeo and meet our host family and begin our volunteer work. Kipepeo tells us they have microfinance opportunities for us to help with, which will be a great learning experience for us. As well, we will be working with orphans and school children. There are two other orphanages we will visit in the neighbourhood.

We recently had our shots, 6 needles (can you say pincushion?) Our flights are booked. We just received our Kenyan visas. May 15th is coming quickly!
